What Is an Automation?
An automation is a triggered email sequence that runs automatically when a subscriber meets specific criteria — such as joining your list, clicking a link, or making a purchase.
Creating a New Automation
- Go to Automations in the sidebar
- Click New Automation
- Enter a name and choose a starting trigger
Available Triggers
- Contact subscribes — fires when a new contact is added to a list or form
- Tag added — fires when a specific tag is applied to a contact
- Date-based — fires on a specific date or anniversary (e.g., birthday)
- Link clicked — fires when a contact clicks a specific link in any email
- Campaign opened — fires when a contact opens a specific campaign
- Custom event — fires when an event is sent via the MisarMail API
Building the Sequence
In the visual builder, add steps by clicking the + button:
- Send Email — design and send an email in the sequence
- Wait — pause for a set number of hours or days before the next step
- Condition (If/Else) — branch the sequence based on contact behavior
- Add Tag / Remove Tag — update contact tags based on actions
- Update Field — update a contact custom field value
- Send Webhook — notify an external system
Activating Your Automation
When your automation is ready, click Activate. The automation will immediately start enrolling contacts who meet the trigger criteria. Contacts already in your list will not be retroactively enrolled unless you use the manual enroll feature.
Monitoring Performance
Click any automation to see the number of active contacts at each step, email open and click rates per step, and conversion rates if goals are set.
