Importing Contacts via CSV
To import contacts from a CSV file:
- Go to Contacts → Import
- Upload your CSV file (max 50MB per import)
- Map the CSV columns to MisarMail fields
- Optionally assign tags and a segment to all imported contacts
- Click Import
CSV Format Requirements
- The email column is required
- All other columns (first_name, last_name, etc.) are optional
- UTF-8 encoding is required
- The first row must be a header row
Contact Status Types
- Subscribed — active, will receive campaigns
- Unsubscribed — opted out, will not receive campaigns (never charged)
- Bounced — invalid email address, automatically suppressed
- Complained — reported your email as spam, automatically suppressed
Adding Custom Fields
To store additional data about contacts (company, phone number, custom attributes):
- Go to Contacts → Fields
- Click Add Field
- Choose the field type (text, number, date, boolean)
- Name the field and save
Custom fields can be used in email personalization with merge tags (e.g., {{contact.company}}) and in segment filters.
Suppression List
The suppression list contains email addresses that will never receive emails from your account, regardless of their subscription status. To add addresses to the suppression list:
- Go to Contacts → Suppression List
- Upload a CSV of addresses to suppress, or add individually
